Mido has been producing affordable timepieces that stand out with their innovative features since 1918. Multifort, Ocean Star, and Baroncelli are classic watches from the manufacturer. Models with a chronometer certificate and a power reserve of up to 80 hours stand out.

The Spanish word “Mido” means to measure. When Georges Schaeren founded the company in 1918, the word was synonymous with technical innovation and excellent design. In its early years, Mido produced wristwatches whose designs were similar to the distinctive cooling grilles of Buick and Bugatti cars.

One of the greatest achievements in the history of the manufacturer, headquartered in Le Locle, Switzerland, is the Multifort model, which went on sale in 1934 and is still in Mido’s production program today. The manufacturer once again undersigned an important development with the Ocean Star introduced in 1959. Mido uses a new crown gasket, which it calls “Aquadura”, for this watch produced as a solid case. With the use of these two techniques, a watch that is quite durable and highly water-resistant compared to the standards of the past has emerged. This technique is also used in Mido’s Commander collection.

Especially for the 30th anniversary of Baroncelli, Mido launched a new collection in 2006, which includes classical and minimalist watches reflecting the aesthetics of designed string instruments. In 2008 Belluna, an Art déco style collection was added to the production program.

It manufactures the cases of Mido models from high-quality and wear-resistant 316L stainless steel. The cases of some models are covered with PVD. Mido uses modified Swiss-made ETA mechanisms in its watches. The most commonly used mechanisms are Mido 60 and Mido 80. The numbers used in the names of the movements indicate the power reserve of 60 and 80 hours. The Mido 80 movement is used in some models in the Ocean Star and Multifort collections with the name Superprecise, with a chronometer certificate and silicon pendulum springs.

MIDO is the Official Performance Partner of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series since 2019, the most prestigious international cliff diving competition. Through its aquatic collection Ocean Star, the Swiss watchmaking brand and the sporting event share the same passion and the same ambitions: to surpass themselves and innovate continually to achieve perfection.
